Latisse™ is used to treat eyelash hypotrichosis, having inadequate or not enough eyelashes. Latisse™ is the first and only FDA-approved treatment to grow eyelashes longer, thicker, and darker.

Hair and eyelash growth has three phases: Anagen (active growth phase), Catagen (regression phase), and Telogen (resting phase). Latisse™ is believed to affect the growth (anagen) phase of the eyelash hair cycle in two ways. First, Latisse™ increases the length of the growth phase, and second, Latisse™ increases the number of hairs in this growth phase. The exact mechanism by which it does this is unknown.

In a clinical study, Latisse™ solution was evaluated for its effect on overall eyelash prominence for four months of treatment. The efficacy endpoint in this study was an increase in overall eyelash prominence as measured by at least a 1-grade increase on the 4-point Global Eyelash Assessment (GEA) scale.

The result of Latisse™ lash treatment is gradual. In the clinical trial, the majority of Latisse™ users saw a significant improvement in eyelash prominence after only 2 months of treatment. After 4 months of treatment, 78% of patients noted improvement (at least a 1-grade increase) in eyelash length, thickness, and darkness. Eyelash growth was assessed by digital image analysis. After 4 months of treatment, there was a 25% increase in eyelash length, a 106% increase in eyelash thickness, and an 18% increase in eyelash darkness.

Latisse™ is easy to use. Apply once nightly across the skin of the upper eyelid margin, at the very base of the eyelashes, using the supplied applicator.

People with a history of eye pressure problems (glaucoma) should speak to an eye care specialist before starting Latisse™. People taking medication to lower their intraocular pressure should be closely monitored by an eye care specialist while using Latisse™.
